POST PRODUCTION

I’ve worked in Los Angeles for over 20 years in Post Production as a feature film and television 1st Assistant & VFX Editor, but also have credits on the creative side as a Lead Editor and Colorist, and on the technical side as an Online Editor.  I have also work extensively in the camera department as an A.C. and D.I.T.   I live in Austin, TX but am set up to work remotely.

CREATIVE & OFFLINE EDITING

As an editor, I am drawn to stories that connect emotionally with audiences, whether through documentary, narrative, or commercial work. My experience spans feature films, documentaries, short-form content, and branded media, with a particular affinity for character-driven stories and dark comedy.

Years spent working across production, editorial, and visual effects have given me a deep understanding of how a story evolves from concept to final delivery. I am especially interested in finding the rhythm of a scene—knowing when to linger on a moment, when to move on, and how small editorial choices can shape emotion, tension, and humor.

I believe the strongest projects are built through collaboration, and I enjoy working closely with directors, producers, and creative teams to bring stories to life.

I have also edited music videos, behind the scenes & EPK, trailers, and branded content.

ASSISTANT & VFX EDITING

I enjoy working at the intersection of creativity, technology, and problem-solving. Over the past 20+ years, I have worked in editorial and visual effects on feature films, television, documentaries, and commercial projects as both an Assistant Editor and Visual Effects Editor.

My work includes managing editorial workflows, visual effects turnovers, media organization, shot tracking, database design, and communication across editorial, production, and visual effects teams. I have overseen projects involving thousands of visual effects shots and developed systems that help creative teams stay organized and focused on storytelling.

With experience in online finishing and color as well, I understand the importance of building strong workflows from acquisition through final delivery. Whether supporting a fast-paced feature or a long-term production, I enjoy creating solutions that keep projects running smoothly.

REELS

BEHIND THE SCENES & ELECTRONIC PRESS KIT

I can work with your production to interview, shoot, write, edit, and finish Behind The Scenes, Corporate Sponsorship, and Electronic Press Kit videos of all lengths.

For the last two years, I have been working as a Behind The Scenes & EPK Writer/Editor, first in-house for Bad Robot Productions with Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Star Trek Beyond, and as an Additional Editor on 10 Cloverfield Lane.  I went on to freelance with titles including Cold Iron Pictures/The Film Arcade releases of Mike Birbiglia's Don't Think Twice and Lake Bell's I Do...Until I Don't.

My background as an editor first allows me to interview and shoot footage for exactly the topics and pre-determined content deliverables.  My experience working in the camera department on feature films has taught me how to work respectfully around actors and crew.  Having worked for 3 years on my own documentary, I am confident and help interview subjects feel at ease in front of the camera.

DIRECTING & PRODUCING

Currently I am producing and directing a multi-year documentary project about the first whiskey distillery to open in Austin, TX since prohibition. Although Distilling Dreams is my first directing project, my years of experience structuring different stories as a film editor have allowed me to quickly asses the character points that are the most important, a skill that translates well to working in the field on non-fiction projects.

2016-03-29 17.11.27.jpg

Laura Creecy works across a variety of artistic and technical disciplines and prefers to describe herself simply as a visual storyteller.

Over the past two decades, her career has taken her from camera departments and documentary editing rooms to visual effects editorial on major studio films and television series. Along the way, she has worked on projects including Top Gun: Maverick, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 1923, and Leave the World Behind, collaborating with creative teams to help bring complex stories to the screen.

Laura holds an M.F.A. in Film & Electronic Media from American University in Washington, D.C., where her thesis film received the top award in her graduating class. Since then, she has built a career at the intersection of storytelling, technology, and information management. In addition to editorial and visual effects work, she has designed databases, managed large collections of digital assets, and developed workflows that help creative teams organize and track thousands of pieces of media throughout the production process.

She is the founder of Women in Post Production, a professional community of more than 2,300 members dedicated to conversations around technology, career development, and representation in the film and television post-production industry. She has also served on the Motion Picture Editors Guild Technology Committee.

When she is not working with moving images, Laura is an award-winning documentary and fine art photographer whose work has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across the United States.

Her interest in archives and preservation grew naturally from a career spent caring for media and the stories it contains. She is particularly passionate about audiovisual preservation, metadata retrieval, digitization of analog media, and helping make historical collections more accessible to future generations.

Laura lives in Austin, Texas, where she continues to explore the connections between storytelling, technology, history, and community.
